Telangana Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao today staged a flash dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan and tried to barge into it demanding that Governor E S L Narasimhan not administer oath of office to defected MLAs.
VHR staged the dharna along with several Congress party activists. The police obstructed and arrested him and the activists.
Speaking on the occasion, VHR alleged that the Governor had committed a mistake by administering oath of office to defecting MLAs. In Telangana, the Governor had done that with TDP MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who joined the TRS after getting elected on a TDP ticket. And the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh was now getting ready to provide minister posts to the MLAs who had joined the party from the YSR Congress Party.
He demanded the Governor not conduct the oath-taking ceremony to the YSR Congress MLAs, as that would be a murder of democracy.
"I will urge the President of India to dismiss E S L Narasimhan as Governor in case the latter conducts the oath-taking ceremony in Andhra Pradesh, too, like he did in Telangana," he said.
He vowed that the Congress would wage a vigorous movement for the protection of democracy.
