Making it clear that the present Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy would be the only captain of the Telangana Congress till the 2019 elections, Telangana Congress party affairs new in-charge R C Kuntia said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi was happy with the working style of Reddy, and Reddy's word would be final in the state unit of the party.
In an informal chat with media persons on Monday, Kuntia said that there would not be any changes in the other TPCC positions, either. He however said that huge changes would take place in the party in September. The size of the Coordination Committee would be reduced, he revealed, and said that the candidates would be announced six months before the elections. The leadership would not ignore anyone in the party, he said.
Kuntia said that disciplinary action would however be taken against leaders who violated the party discipline, whoever they may be. He also said that the High Command would take the final decision on alliances and when to form them.
Stating that the Sangareddy public meeting was the best example that the people were looking to the Congress, Kuntia said that the Rahul Sandesh Yatras would continue till the 2019 elections. The differences among the leaders could be solved by visiting all the mandals in Telangana, he opined.
Kuntia said that the remarks of party senior leaders Jairam Ramesh and Mani Shanker Iyer against Rahul Gandhi were their personal views, and that the leaders were finding fault with Rahul Gandhi whenever the party faced defeat but the same people were not giving credit to him when it won.
He said that he knew the strengths and weaknesses of the party, and had come to the state only to set right his own house. "I didn't come here to wage a fight against KCR," he said. He however slammed the CM saying that nobody benefited in Telangana except KCR's family, and that the TRS had neglected all the assurances it had made before the 2014 elections.
