With just a day left for campaigning for the Huzurnagar by-election, Congress senior leaders including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Working President A Revanth Reddy, former Leader of Oppposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir and other senior leaders stormed the streets of Huzurnagar with road shows which drew crowds in the entire route.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, Revanth Reddy and other leaders launched their road show from Jana Pahad after offering special prayers at the Jana Pahad Dargah. They boarded an open-top campaign vehicle and addressed several corner meetings en route.
Technically, all the meetings they addressed were corner meetings - at Jana Pahad, Palakeedu, Nereducherla, Garidepalli, Burugaddda and Mathampally. But the sizes of the gatherings at all these places were no less than those at massive public meetings.
With all the streets completely packed, a large number of people climbed onto roof-tops, walls and even trees for glimpses of their favourite leaders. They cheered the leaders and shouted slogans in favour of the Congress and its leaders.
Addressing the meetings, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he was seeking votes for Congress candidate and his wife Padmavathi Reddy on the basis of his performance and achievements in Huzurnagar. He said that every bit of development in Huzurnagar was due to his efforts as the MLA since 2009.
Reddy said that the TRS leaders were shamelessly seeking votes despite not fulfilling a single major promise they had made to the people in the previous two elections. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had turned so arrogant that he had dismissed more than 48,000 RTC workers in a single stroke and had even defied the orders of the High Court to hold talks with the employees to resolve their issues.
Revanth Reddy too launched a scathing attack on the TRS government, especially CM KCR. He ridiculed the claims being made by the TRS leaders that development would come if the TRS won the Huzurnagar seat. He asked why there was no development in constituencies being represented by TRS MLAs.
He added that the Huzurnagar by-election was no ordinary election but an expression of the self-respect of the people of Telangana.
