46-year-old Padmavathi Reddy, former MLA, is the wife of N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana Congress President.
Hyderabad | 24th September 2019
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Padmavathi Reddy as the party's candidate for the by-election to the Telangana Legislative Assembly for the Huzurnagar constituency's seat.
46-year-old Reddy, former MLA, is the wife of N Uttam Kumar Reddy, TPCC President. From the time that her husband Uttam Kumar Reddy entered politics in 1994, she has been involved in all election campaigning. She was also representing the Kodad Assembly constituency.
It may be recalled that Uttam Kumar Reddy was elected to the Telangana Assembly from Huzurnagar in the 2018 elections, but quit the seat after his election as Nalgonda MP. He has been pitching for his wife to be given the ticket for the resulting by-election, but there was some uncertainty earlier in this regard as senior Congress leader and MP Revanth Reddy favoured Shyamala Kiran Reddy for the ticket. Other leaders of the party, however, opposed Revanth Reddy's plea and supported Padmavathi Reddy's candidature.
