TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy today hoisted the national flag at the party's Telangana headquarters Gandhi Bhavan, despite the continuous and heavy rains.
Speaking on the occasion, he conveyed his Independence Day wishes to all the Congress cadre and all sections of the Telangana society.
He also paid tributes to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
He said that present Congress workers must derive inspiration from the selflessness and sacrifices of the party's freedom fighters.
He added that as long as the the Congress ruled the country, continuous efforts were made to strengthen and give full independence to the four pillars of democracy in the country - i. e. the legislature, the judiciary, the executive and the media. However, from the year 2014, the central and state governments had been trying to weaken these four pillars.
Reddy said that the Congress would however always stand for social justice and justice for dalits, tribals, OBCs and minorities, whether or not it was in power.
He also called upon the party's cadre to get ready for the GHMC elections, and the Warangal and Khammam municipal elections, in November.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, and other party leaders including V Hanumantha Rao, Shabbir Ali, Vamshichand Reddy, S A Sampath Kumar, M Anil Kumar Yadav and hundreds of other leaders, attended the celebrations.
