AP Congress Committee Kisan Cell chairman M Kodanda Reddy demanded that power utilities TRANSCO and DISCOMs change their attitude towards the supply of power to the agriculture sector in Andhra Pradesh.
Talking to mediapersons in the Assembly premises, Kodanda Reddy alleged that TRANSCO and DISCOMs were supplying power to the agriculture sector during the night, which, he said, has been causing several problems to the farmers. He appealed that the government intervene in the matter if the power utilities fail to change their ways.
Kondanda Reddy also demanded that the government start power generation from Shankerpalli plant, which was left unused after it was established about 10 to 12 years ago. He said that the plant could be used to generate power for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Hyderabad, he said, has spread rapidly, and supplying power to the city along with other districts has become problematic. He suggested that Hyderabad be supplied from the Shankarpalli power plant, and also that it be delinked with other districts. (INN)
