The Congress MLAs today held a protest outside the Assembly over the growing number of power cuts to the agriculture sector in the State.
The MLAs had earlier moved an adjournment motion in the House and demanded that Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy hold a discussion on the issue by allowing their motion. However, the Speaker did not grant their demand, prompting the MLAs to hold the protest at the Assembly media point.
The MLAs led by CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka raised slogans against the State government and displayed placards demanding that the Speaker grant their demand. MLAs D Sridhar Babu, T Jayaprakash Reddy and Seethakka took part in the protest.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Vikramarka said that the farmers in the State were suffering due to frequent powers cuts. He alleged that the State government was not supplying power for more than four hours to the farm sector although it was claiming 24-hour power supply daily. He also said that even the 4-hour supply was not being given at a specific period of time in a day.
He said that the Congress MLAs had moved an adjournment motion on the issue in the Assembly but that the Speaker had rejected their motion, forcing them to stage a walk-out from the House. He said that the Congress was condemning the attitude of the State government over the issue, and demanded that the government immediately start 24-hour uninterrupted quality power supply to the farmers.
