Hyderabad | 3rd May 2018
An unseasonal rain created havoc across Telangana today.

Trees got uprooted and lay across the roads at several places in the state due to the heavy gales that accompanied the rain, and vehicular movement stopped at several places due to the fallen trees. The power supply was also affected in towns and villages across the state. And food grains got soaked in the rain water in many grain purchase centres. Mangos got yanked off the trees due to the winds.

The people of Warangal, Kazipet and Hanmakonda faced particular hardships, with two persons even losing their lives in Warangal district. One Thodeti Kattaiah, a farmer of Mallaram village under Bheemadeverapally mandal, died after being struck by lightening. Another person Ayodya died after a wall collapsed on him at another place in the district. Several trees fell on the roads in Warangal, Narsampet, Mulugu and other towns. Metal sheets on the Warangal railway platform were blown off due to the gales.

Patients in the MGM Hospital faced hardships due to the breakdown of power supply. Farmers cursed their fate due to the destruction of their corn grain in the Enumamula market yard. Grain and corn was soaked in the rain water in the Parakala agriculture market, too.

Other districts were affected, too. The paddy crop got destroyed in Narmetta, Tharigoppula, in Janagaon district. Crops were destroyed due to the rain in Kallur mandal in Khammam district, and the transport of grains was stopped due to the non-availability of lorries. The local TDP MLA demanded that the state government purchase the soaked grains by paying the minimum support price.

In Mancherial district, Mandamarri and Chennur received heavy rain with gales, and the power supply broke down due to the poles falling down. Several mandals in Karimnagar district, too, received rain with strong winds. Crops were soaked in rain water in Dharmapuri, Velgaturu, Choppadandi, Manthani and Kamanpur mandals.

The rain created havoc in Bibi Nagar in Yadadri Bhongir district, too. Again, the food grains in the agriculture markets were soaked in rain water.

Heavy rains were also witnessed in Peddapally, Siddipet, Husnabad, Gajwel and Vargal mandals. Electric poles at several places were uprooted by the accompanying gales. Rain and gales also hit Suryapet and Nalgonda districts.
