A delegation under the banner of United Muslim Forum met Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the camp office on Wednesday evening, and sought protection from "communal parties" towards the lives and properties of Muslims.
Former chairman of Urdu Academy Raheemuddin Ansari, who was a part of the delegation, said that the memorandum urged Rosaiah to take immediate and urgent steps to safeguard the lives and properties of Muslims from communal outfits.
The memorandum stated that Muslims in the state feared that 3 major events were about to occur which could possibly see an outbreak of communal violence.
Ansari said that the so-called Telangana Liberation Day is falling on a Friday, and that communal outfits could create disturbance during the prayers.
The former chairman also added that soon after this, the Ganesh Visarjan and the verdict on the title deed of the Babri Masjid were to follow.
The delegation also urged Rosaiah to order a judicial inquiry into the recent flare-up of communal violence, sparked off by an incident at Moosa Bowli in the old city.
The delegation demanded that stringent security checks should be conducted to detect weapons in the lorries being deployed to carry Ganesh idols for immersion.
The Chief Minister gave the delegation a patient hearing, and assured them of taking appropriate action. Rosaiah told the delegation that a review meeting will be conducted with higher police officials on the security issues, on Thursday.
The delegation was led by religious scholars, United Muslim Forum convenor Maulana Abdul Raheem Quereshi, Maulana Akber Nizamuddin, Maulana Syed Qubool Pasha Shuttari and MIM floor leader Akber Owasi, along with his party legislators.
