Fresh violence broke out near Charminar again on Friday, demonstrating that the pent up resentment over the Bhagyalakshmi temple issue is nowhere close to abating. Around seven people sustained injuries as an unruly mob pelted stones, and the police resorted to mild lathi charge and teargas to bring the situation under control.
Trouble started when devotees, after offering Friday prayers at the Mecca Masjid, tried to approach the Mecca Masjid in large numbers to offer "salaam" to a religious symbol adjacent to it. However, they were prevented from doing so by the police who set up barricades.
The riled mob then started shouting slogans, and the protest soon went awry as they stated attacking shops and vehicles.
