Telugu film actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan said that his efforts would be fruitful only when the Andhra Pradesh government showed a permanent solution to the kidney patients in the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district, and sought a response from the government in two days.
For over two decades now, thousands of people of this region, comprising about 100 villages, have been afflicted by a mysterious and chronic kidney ailment called
Uddanam Nephropathy. Apparently each family has at least one person suffering from Uddanam Nephropathy.
Speaking to the media at Visakhapatnam after the meeting with doctors and Harvard University professors, who conducted a study on the kidney problems of the Uddanam people, Kalyan said that his effort was for the sake of the people and not for the sake of political mileage.
"Every effort starts with a small step. I thank everyone for appreciating my efforts. I will explain the details of the research conducted by the Harvard professors in Uddanam to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. I will seek the support of the YSR Congress Party if needed for a solution to the Uddanam problem. I welcome anyone who seeks to come along to work for the sake of people," the actor and politician said.
On Monday, Pawan Kalyan will meet Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat and discuss the problems of the Uddanam kidney patients.
