Two workers from L&T who were working on inspecting a water pipeline inside a manhole near the Uppal cricket stadium died due to asphyxiation? today.
According to the police, Santosh and Vijay, both in their late twenties, belonged to Odisha?, and had? descended into the manhole to clean? it, but after some time died of asphyxiation?.
?It was suspected that while cleaning the manhole?, they may have inhaled poisonous gases from inside.
The police removed the bodies from the manhole and sent them to a government general hospital for post-mortems.
Reacting on the incident, Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board Managing Director Dana Kishore ordered an inquiry into the incident, and appointed the Board's technical director Sathyanarayana as the inquiry officer.
Kishore also announced that the Board would extend Rs 10 lakhs as ex-gratia payment to the families of each of the bereaved workers.
He said that L&T was constructing a water pipeline where the workers died. He said that he would initiate action against L&T for being negligent.
