The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) today categorically denied allegations circulating on the social media that nearly 100 cows had died in its goshalas over the past three months, and appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to respect the sentiments of devotees.
In an official statement, TTD clarified that the images being shared online were not from its facilities, and condemned the spread of such false information intended to "mislead devotees". It urged devotees not to believe such misinformation, and reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the cows under its care.
The controversy was sparked by a post from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on its official X handle claiming that a significant number of cows had died at the TTD goshalas due to neglect and poor maintenance.
Former TTD Trust Board Chairman and YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy had also alleged that over 100 cows had died in the past three months, and called for an inquiry into the matter.
For the unversed, the TTD's goshalas are known for housing indigenous cow breeds and supplying milk for temple rituals. The institution has reportedly always maintained high standards in the care and management of its cattle.
