Hyderabad | 12th December 2015
The upcoming MLC elections for 12 seats under the local bodies' quota will be held only in four districts, as six of the 12 seats have been won unopposed by the TRS in five districts, according to Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal.
Addressing the media at the Secretariat on Friday, Bhanwar Lal said that after the last day for the withdrawals of nominations on Sunday afternoon, there existed no election code in the districts that saw unopposed elections- Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Warangal and Karimnagar (which had 2 seats both of which were won by the TRS unopposed). However, the election code would continue to exist in the Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts with two seats each, and the Nalgonda and Khammam districts with one seat each.
Polling will begin on December 27 at 8 am and continue till 4 pm, and the results would be announced after the counting of votes on December 30, he stated.
The Election Commission will send two senior IAS officials to each district as observers, he said.
Voters would need to cast their votes denoting first priority, second priority and the rest, or NOTA. The number of voters and polling stations district-wise are:
Mahbubnagar: 1,262 members in five polling stations
Ranga Reddy: 771 voters
Nalgonda: 1,110 voters in five polling stations
Khammam: 726 members in four polling stations
Arrangements have been made and adequate Central forces will be deployed in the districts for smooth and fair conduct of polling, Lal said.
The EC is also examining the explanations given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and IT Minister K T Rama Rao on the notices served on them for code violation.
