The ruling TRS has begun efforts to ensure the unanimous election of Padma Rao Goud as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
The party sought the support of the main Opposition party, the Congress, for this, urging it to extend support for Rao.
TRS Working President K T Rama Rao today met TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at the CLP office and spoke with them. During the meeting, KTR reportedly told the Congress leaders that other political parties in the House including the MIM and the BJP had already extended their support to Goud, and requested the Congress leaders to extend support on the issue too.
The issue of the MLC elections under the MLA quota also came up for discussion during the meeting. The TPCC president and the CLP leader urged KTR to extend support and ensure the victory of the Congress unopposed for one of the seats. They told KTR that they had adequate members to win one MLC seat.
