The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Friday laid seige to the Hyderabad Collectorate at Chirag Ali Lane, over the Bayyaram iron ore issue.
Hundreds of TRS activists assembled at the Hyderabad Collectorate, and raised slogans against the state government for its decision to grant the Bayyaram mining lease to Visakha Steel Plant.
Speaking on the occasion, TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy said that the Bayyaram mines belong to the Telangana region, and that his party would not allow the government to shift iron ore to the Seemandhra region.
Nayani demanded that the government set up a steel plant at Bayyaram to ensure that the iron ore gets utilised only in the Telangana region.
He also criticised ministers from the Telangana region for remaining inert on the issue. He said that they must prevail upon Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to withdraw his decision on the Bayyaram issue.
The TRS leaders and workers were arrested, and later released, by the city police. (INN)
