Assembly Adjourned Over Telangana And Bayyaram Mines Issues

Speaker Nadendla Manohar is forced to adjourn the House for the day when opposition leaders create a ruckus over the Telangana and the Bayyaram mines issues.
Hyderabad | 11th June 2013
The State Legislative Assembly was adjourned, on Tuesday, without transacting any business, after the proceedings were stalled by the opposition parties over the Telangana statehood issue, and the Bayyaram mines issue.

As soon as the House met on Tuesday, TRS and BJP MLAs insisted on introducing the Telangana Bill in the House. Similarly, the TDP legislators wanted discussion on the Bayyaram mines issue. Speaker Nadendla Manohar's refusal to allow the adjournment motions move by the opposition parties led to the stalling of proceedings by the latter. The TRS, BJP and TDP members surrounded the speaker's podium. While doing so, they held placards and shouted slogans.

Following the uproar, the speaker adjourned the House for half-an-hour at about 9:09am. After the House reassembled at about 10:30am, the speaker directed the chairman of the Standing Committee on Welfare, Atharam Sakku, to table the committee's report. Later, the speaker announced that the Standing Committee reports on 13 departments were deemed to have been tabled.

The Speaker informed that as many as 183 MLAs and MLCs had actively participated in the preparation of the Standing Committee reports. He congratulated all the participants as this was the first time that this system was followed on the lines of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the TRS and TDP members continued their slogan-shouting. The speaker asked them to raise their demands in a different form. However, the opposition members did not listen to the speaker's request and continued stalling the House.

Legislative Affairs Minister D Sreedhar Babu slammed the opposition members for their behaviour and said they were not following the decision taken during the meeting of Business Advisory Committee. He appealed to the opposition members to resume their seats.

With the opposition members continuing their slogan shouting, the speaker adjourned the House again for another half-an-hour at around 10:40am.

Normalcy could not be resorted in the House, when it met again at about 12:16pm, for the third time. This forced the speaker to adjourn the House for the day. (INN)
