Alleged Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists on Friday obstructed Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu's convoy at Pragnapur, when he was heading towards Gajwel in Medak district, to disburse compensation to the kin of victims of microfinance institutions.
The activist demanded that the TDP chief make his party's stand clear on the separate Telangana statehood issue or they would not allow him to tour Telangana.
The activists had a heated argument with TDP activists and police and raised 'Naidu go back' slogans.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area and businessmen put down their shutters.
The police resorted to lathicharge to disburse the TRS activists and bring the situation under control. The police also arrested a few activists in this connection.
Later, Naidu visited the house of Ramachandra Chary, who had ended his life unable to repay the loan taken from microfinance institution, and consoled his family members. He also presented a cheque of Rs. 50,000 to Mr. Chary's family.
The former chief minister criticized the TRS for obstructing his convoy while he was on his way to help the victims of MFI harassment. Naidu said that the TRS should rather try to help the victims and extend moral support to their family members.
The TDP has disbursed compensation to 3 families in Gajwel in Medak district, according to sources.
