The state paid tributes to former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on the occasion of his first death anniversary, and people all over Andhra Pradesh expressed their grief through various memorial programs. YSR, along with 4 others including a pilot, lost his life in an unfortunate helicopter crash at Nallakalva, in the Nallamalla forests of Kurnool district, on 2nd September last year.

The present Chief Minister, K Rosaiah, could not go for his scheduled visit to the accident site, Rudrakonda Hill in Nallakalva, to unveil a statue of his predecessor, as he is not keeping good health. He expressed his regrets through a message, and hailed YSR as a great leader whose priority was the welfare of the people of his state.
The late chief minister's kith and kin, who paid homage at his grave in Idupulapaya, included his widow Y S Vijayalakshmi, children Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Sharmila along with their spouses, his brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy and his wife, friend K V P Ramchandra Rao, actor Vishnu, former minister Konda Surekha, and other personalities.

In Hyderabad, speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other senior Congress leaders led the way in paying tributes in the State Assembly premises. At the Congress Legislature Party office, senior party leaders J C Diwakar Reddy and Jana Reddy paid floral tributes, and Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas expressed his condolences at AP Bhavan in New Delhi.
Admirers and followers commemorated the leader in the capital city by holding all-religion prayers, and exhibitions depicting his life and achievements.
