Tollywood actor Vijay Sai was found dead at his home in Yousufguda on Monday.
The actor had allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan, the Jubilee Hills police said.
Sai had purportedly shot a video of himself before taking the extreme step, the police officials informed the media. In the video clip, the deceased had reportedly held his wife Vanitha responsible for his death, claiming that she was trying to extort Rs, 3 crores from him.
The husband-wife duo were living separately for some time now, and Vanitha had filed for divorce from Sai.
The couple had been married for five years, and had a daughter Kundana. The daughter lived with her mother Vanitha, and Sai was allowed to meet her occasionally.
The actor's family members meanwhile accused Vanitha of harassing Sai. They said that the couple used to quarrel frequently over personal disputes.
Meanwhile, police said that Sai had lodged a police complaint against Vanitha on December 9, alleging that she had forcibly taken away his car.
If sources are to be believed, Sai was neck-deep in debts after investing in a film along with a noted producer.
The actor was best known for his role in the 2006 romantic-comedy
Bommarillu. Rumours are also rife that he was depressed over not getting roles in films of late, and that this could also have been a reason behind the suicide.
Meanwhile, speaking to mediapersons on Monday, Sai's wife Vanitha refuted the allegations made by him in the reported selfie-video.
She instead accused him of having an extra-marital affair which had led to their separation.
The Jubilee Hills police registered a case and took up investigation.
