The death toll in the Teppotsavam at Kanumalla (Singarayakonda mandal, Prakasam district) has risen to 4, with 2 more bodies having been retrieved from the water pond on Monday.
According to Singarayakonda police, the victims have been identified as Revathi and Chaitanya.
The tragedy struck the Teppotsavam (the Teppotsavam religious ritual is conducted a day after the Sankranthi festival in the village) when a palanquin carrying the deity capsized in a water pond. Dasari Tirumala and K Kalyana were the victims who had drowned during the mishap.
Sources said the mishap occurred when the small boat carrying the devotees along with the deity capsized due to its excessive weight.
