The membership drive of the Telangana Youth Congress that extended for a month came to an end on September 20 midnight with a whopping 12.3 lakh applications for membership, said Raju P Nair, Pradesh Returning Officer for the Telangana Youth Congress elections.
The Youth Congress cadre worked tirelessly right from the membership drive's starting date, he claimed.
The drive was fully online through the With IYC app.
Nair said that in the next phase the applications for memberships would be verified thoroughly. Multiple applications with the same mobile numbers and applications with wrong OTPs would be put on hold, and the ID proofs submitted with the applications would be verified during this process, he said.
People whose applications are put on hold would be given a few days to update their documents after the verification process to make sure that genuine members are not left out, he added.
With the number of applications exceeding 12 lakhs, the process would take at least a month, and the announcement of the final selections would be made in the first week of November, he said.
The results of the elections for all the committees would be announced only after this process, Nair said. The top three contestants who got the highest number of votes would be called for interviews by a panel consisting of the Pradesh Returning Officer, Election Commissioner In Charge and the General Secretary In Charge of the organisation, he said.
Approximately 1,550 candidates contested at the state, district and Assembly constituency levels in the internal elections.
