Telangana Youth Congress head, K Shiva Sena Reddy, was today arrested by the police for staging a protest at the Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.
Reddy had organised a protest at the hospital along with several other Youth Congress workers to demand that the state government allow them to pay tributes to the mortal remains of an unemployed youth from Warangal, B Sunil Naik, who died while undergoing treatment after his attempted suicide using poison.
The youngster reportedly took the extreme step ten days ago as he was depressed by the government's failure to release notifications for the filling up of government job vacancies. He had been receiving treatment at the Gandhi Hospital.
The police, however, did not allow the activists to pay their respects to the deceased youngster, and later arrested them. They were taken to a nearby police station.
The death has made the state government the subject of much criticism as before committing suicide, Naik said that he had been driven to do so by the lack of employment notifications. He had said that his suicide was a mark of his protest against the non-issuance of any job notifications.
The Telangana unit of the Youth Congress has been fighting for the cause of the state's unemployed youth for some time now. Just last month, the outfit had staged a demonstration at the Assembly to demand the implementation of an unemployment allowance.
