The results of the Telangana Youth Congress election were declared last night.
Youth leader Shiva Sena Reddy, a native of Wanaparthy, won the election, held in August and September last year, after securing 59,997 votes.
The party's high command had summoned the three leaders who had secured the most number of votes, including Reddy, to Delhi, to interview them to shortlist a candidate for the post, in December, 2020.
The results of the election were then published on the official website of the party last night.
Speaking after the declaration of the results, a visibly elated Reddy thanked the senior leaders of the party for appointing him to the post, and assured them that he would work hard to strengthen the party.
"I thank my seniors in the Congress for giving me this responsibility. It is a great opportunity for me to work for the party. I will work towards strengthening the party in Telangana, and will take steps to realise its vision," he said.
He specifically thanked party leader Rahul Gandhi, national Youth Congress president B V Srinivas and AICC state in-charge Manickam Tagore for choosing him for the post.
The appointment of a new leader to the youth wing of the party will perhaps help the enfeebled Congress regain its strength in Telangana. The party has been seriously weakened by
repeated defections, and
endless infighting over the appointment of the next TPCC president.
