Telangana Women's Commission chairperson Nerella Sharada said that there was an immediate need to cease indecent dance routines that undermined women's dignity.
In response to multiple complaints about inappropriate and degrading dance moves in certain movie songs, the Telangana Women's Commission today took a firm stance, and warned choreographers that strict action would be taken if such practices continued.
In a press release, Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women Nerella Sharada said that there was an immediate need to cease indecent dance routines that undermined women's dignity.
"Should this warning be ignored, we are prepared to take stringent action in accordance with the law," she said.
Sharada also said that given the significant influence movies had on youth and children it was the film industry's ethical responsibility to promote positive messages in society and uphold women's dignity, and urged filmmakers to practice self-regulation.
The Chairperson also encouraged individuals and social organisations to voice their concerns on the issue. She assured the public that the Commission would closely monitor developments and take action as required.
