Surabhi Vani Devi, the TRS' candidate for the Hyderabad-Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy MLC seat, today expressed her disappointment and annoyance at the low turnout of graduate voters in the recent concluded
MLC elections in the graduates' constituencies of Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam and Hyderabad-Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy.
During her visit to Hyderabad's Saroornagar Stadium, where the
counting of the votes polled in the elections is currently being carried out, she charged, "Although the elections were organised well and the counting process too is proceeding in an efficient manner, it was disappointing to see that as many as 20,000 graduates failed to do their democratic duty. They simply did not turn up to cast their votes. It is disheartening that the educated youth and the employees did not bother to exercise their franchise. Their failure reflects poorly on the education they have been given. I wonder if this is what they were taught to do as citizens of a democracy."
The candidate, who currently has a comfortable lead over her rivals for the MLC post, then exuded confidence about her prospects. She said that she was hoping she would win the seat so she could serve the people of her state.
"I hope to secure a victory in the MLC elections as I wish to serve the people of Telangana. My current lead has encouraged me greatly. I believe there is a good chance that I will clinch the seat. My participation in the elections would not have been possible without the support of the TRS. I hope I can make good use of the opportunity they have provided to me," Vani Devi said.
"The counting officials are currently busy tabulating the results. Since there are a total of 93 candidates vying for the seat, the counting process is of course a lengthy one," she added.
Vani Devi has already secured 1,12,689 of the 1,79,175 votes needed to win the Hyderabad-Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy seat.
