TRS MLC K Kavitha and the opposition Congress leaders entered into a Twitter war today over the issue of paddy procurement.
It started with Kavitha replying to a tweet by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the problems being faced by the farmers of Telangana due to the deadlock between the state and the union governments over the issue of the paddy procurement.
Gandhi warned the union and the state governments that his party would launch a fight on behalf of the farmers of Telangana, and keep at it until their problem was solved.
He alleged that both the TRS and the BJP were doing politics on the issue, and that it was shameful that the two parties were exploiting the hard work of the farmers for political gains.
Kavitha countered the statement of the former Congress president by asking Gandhi to extend his party's support to the Telangana MPs in Parliament by staging a protest program in the well of the house instead of expressing his solidarity on Twitter.
She also asked Gandhi to demand the introduction of a one-nation-one-procurement policy.
TPCC chief Revanth Reddy countered the statement of Kavitha. He told Kavitha that her father and CM K Chandrashekar Rao had signed an agreement with the union government in August last year that the state would not supply parboiled rice from Telangana farmers to the Centre. That agreement had now become a death rope for the farmers of the state, and Kavitha had conveniently forgotten about it, he alleged.
Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also responded to the tweet of MLC Kavitha, and asked her if the TRS MPs had held any protest on the paddy procurement issue in Parliament.
He said that KCR should come to Delhi and hold a protest on the issue if he had any commitment to solving the problems of the farmers.
Claiming that all Congress leaders were ready to quit their posts for the sake of the farmers of the state, he asked Kavitha if the 9 MPs of the TRS would also tender their resignations from their posts.
He said that the Congress was the party of the farmers, and pointed out that the party had waived off crop loans of Rs. 70,000 crore during the UPA-1 rule.
