Stating that injustice was being done to Telangana by the Andhra Pradesh government in the sharing of energy and water as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that the Telangana government would wage a strong battle to get its due share.
Replying to a question raised by Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, Rao admitted that the ownership dispute over the Sileru Hydro Electric Project situated in Khammam district arose between the two states. He said that a high-level committee headed by the Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority was looking into the matter.
He said that Telangana was being subjected to discrimination and injustices on various fronts in the sharing of electricity and water, and that those matters had been raised at various forums.
He said that the Telangana government was pursuing the matter with the central government, and that it would approach the courts wherever necessary.
Rao said that the Telangana government had been honouring the AP Reorganisation Act by providing a Secretariat, an Assembly and other infrastructure to the A P government in the joint capital. However, the A P government had been denying Telangana its share in energy and water.
Earlier, Ponguleti slammed the state government for its failure to prevent the merger of seven mandals of Khammam into AP.
He also said that the AP government had been delaying the commissioning of the Krishnapatnam and Hindujas power plants.
He proposed that the House pass a unanimous resolution seeking justice for Telangana.
TDP MLC A Narsa Reddy accused the Telangana government of remaining a mute spectator to the injustices. He asked why these issues were not discussed in the meeting of the Chief Ministers of both the states at Raj Bhavan.
MLC B Venkateshwara Rao also spoke on the issue.
Expressing his views, the Leader of the Opposition D Srinivas appealed to all the members to fight unitedly to get the rightful share of Telangana. (INN)
