Telangana Tension At ANGRAU
Telangana activists get unruly at Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), demanding that ANGRAU appoint a Vice-Chancellor hailing from the Telangana region.
Telangana activists, on Wednesday, disrupted an anniversary function being held at Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad. Their demand? That ANGRAU appoint a Vice-Chancellor hailing from the Telangana region.
Agitators hurled eggs and tomatoes at the police present there, and the police then resorted to lathicharge.
The violence has not gone down well with the administration. V Nagireddy, the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of ANGRAU, said, that it is the Governor who installs the VC, and not the students or the staff. He added that there would be disastrous consequences if protests of this kind continue.
The post of VC at ANGRAU has not been filled for a year and a half now, and V Nagireddy, who is Principal Secretary, Agriculture, is acting as VC currently. There is also currently no board of management operational at present. The VC's post is lying vacant reportedly because the CM has been facing pressures from different regional forces, each demanding that one of their own be nominated for it.
