The Union government's hastily announced demonetization of the Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes, and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's unilateral support to the Centre for the GST had caused severe hardships to the Telangana people, Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy said today.
Speaking to mediapersons, the TDP leader said that the farmers of the state were groaning under financial stringency with the banks having no cash, and were spending hours at banks/ATMs leaving their work in the fields.
And on account of the GST coming into effect from July 1, agricultural implements, fertilizers and seeds, and essential items used by the middle class sections, would be costlier, burdening on the state's farmers, citizens and economy, he claimed. He pointed to the statement of Finance Minister Etela Rajendar himself, who had said that the state government would lose Rs 3,000 crores on account of GST.
He said that even IT Minister K T Rama Rao had said that the state would have to pay Rs 20,000 crore now to the Centre in the form of taxes every year.
He demanded that the state government raise these issues in the last meeting on the GST in Parliament tomorrow, and boycott the meeting and withdraw support to the BJP's Presidential candidate if necessary.
