A meeting of senior Congress leaders of the state who are opposing the leadership of TPCC president A Revanth Reddy and AICC state incharge Manickam Tagore, held today in a city hotel, was ended abruptly.
Party MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy a.k.a. Jagga Reddy was part of the meeting, along with other senior leaders Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Shyam Mohan Rao and Kamalakar Rao.
Many other senior leaders who were also supposed to attend skipped the meeting after AICC secretary Bose Raju called up all the leaders and asked them to cancel the meeting, telling them that they should lodge a complaint with the national president Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi if they had any grievances against the present state leadership.
This prompted the leaders who were present, to end the meeting abruptly.
Speaking on the occasion, the disgruntled leaders claimed that their's was not a meeting to show any dissidence, and that they had in fact passed a resolution supporting the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Marri Shashidhar Reddy said that they had complete faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, and had urged the party leadership to make changes at all the levels of the state party organisation.
He said that the party high command could take any kind of decision for strengthening the state unit.
He added that the upcoming elections in Telangana were crucial for the very existence of the party in the state, and that the meeting was aimed at strengthening the party in the state, and to discuss ways to avoid a debacle of the kind that the party was witnessing in other states across the country.
