Telangana lawyers demand bill in Parliament for statehood

About 1,500 pro-Telangana lawyers congregated outside the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, protesting for a separate Telangana state. The lawyers had gathered there last night. The morning saw speeches and Telangana folk programs being held at the gathering.

The lawyers are demanding that a bill be passed in Parliament to arrange for a separate state for Telangana. Prof. Kodandaram, JAC convenor, was also present.

They also staged a rally towards Parliament, but were stopped by police forces who used water cannons to contain the agitation. Some lawyers were arrested as well. Lawyers are now staging a sit-out in front of the Parliament.

The Jantar Mantar is a regular destination for protestors in Delhi.
