A road accident that took place on Outer Ring Road near Himayat Sagar today left six persons critically injured, and claimed the life of one.
The RGI Airport police reached the spot when news of the mishap broke, and shifted the injured to hospital.
Police reports say that six young people from Tolichowki, who were driving towards Shamshabad, collided first with an electric post and then a road median, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Reports also suggest that the victims were under the influence of banned drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident.
The police even seized cannabis and liquor from the car, following which they registered a case on the matter and launched an investigation.
This incident follows
another mishap that took place on the outskirts of Gudur mandal's Marrimitta village, in Mahbubabad district, yesterday. Six people lost their lives in the accident.
Troubled by the rise in road accidents across the state, the Telangana government has been working on preventing such incidents. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar too has been involved in the efforts, and had recently held a
meeting on road safety measures at the BRKR Bhavan just last month. The traffic police officials in Hyderabad have also
increased checking to stop the people of the city from driving under the influence of alcohol in an effort to prevent drunken driving accidents.
