The crucial meeting of the Congress Core Committee began in New Delhi on Friday evening amid speculations that the Telangana issue will be discussed in the meeting.
The meeting, which is being held at Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's residence, gains significance as it could include Telangana in the agenda for the next meeting of the Congress Working Committee, which in turn, has been authorised to take a final decision on the statehood issue. The meeting is being attended by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, A K Antony, Sushil Kumar Shinde, P Chidambaram, Digvijay Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Earlier in the day, Digvijay Singh and Azad held separate meetings with PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on the Telangana issue. (INN)
