The Bharatiya Janata Party will take up a Rath Yatra from Mahbubnagar to Bhadrachalam in Khammam district, from 19 January to 9 February, for the cause of Telangana statehood.
Talking to media persons at the party office, BJP senior leader Dr. K Laxman stated that the Rath Yatra would be taken up under the leadership of BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, from the banks of Krishna River in Mahbubnagar district.
The 3,456 km Rath Yatra would cover 10 districts, and would conclude on the banks of the river Godavari, at Bhadrachalam.
Laxman said that the yatra would highlight the failure of both the Congress and the Telugu Desam parties in achieving Telangana statehood through their "dubious policies".
Former union minister Bandaru Dattatreyya accused the Congress and the TDP of trying to exploit the Telangana issue in order to protect their vote banks in the respective regions.
He said that the formation of a Telangana state would be possible only with the BJP.
BJP state president G Kishan Reddy stated that the yatra would highlight the TDP's ambivalent stand on Telangana and the Congress' "delaying tactics".
After the Yatra, Kishan Reddy said, the BJP would organize a massive convention in Hyderabad on 11 Feb.
The convention will be attended by national leaders, including L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj, he said. (INN)
