YSR Congress Party Telangana working president Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy today announced that the party was extending support to the TRS in the MLC elections under the MLAs' quota to be conducted on June 1.
Ponguleti said, "As the YSRCP could not field and elect its own candidates in the elections, we have decided to support the ruling party in the elections. After a debate among party leaders at the Lotus Pond head office, party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy took a decision to extend support to the TRS. With this, we will teach a lesson to the Telugu Desam Party and the Congress, which have no values," he stated.
The decision of the support comes in the wake of IT Minister K T Rama Rao calling up Jaganmohan Reddy, Srinivas Reddy clarified.
He also recalled that the Telugu Desam Party did take support from other parties earlier to have its member Sathish Reddy elected as vice-chairman. Being the then leader of the Opposition, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had offered support to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government by issuing a whip to his party members, he recalled.
"Instead of wasting valuable votes, and being a responsible political party, we have decided to extend support to the TRS," Reddy remarked. (NSS)
