The Chief Election Commission (CEC) has administered a shock to the TRS by deciding to conduct the Telangana MLC elections through an open ballot system.
It may be recalled that the TRS had fielded five candidates though it has the strength to win only four candidates. The party needs the support of other parties' members to make its fifth candidate win the election. The TRS expected that the victory of its fifth candidate in the MLC elections would be easy with a secret ballot system.
In this regard, the open ballot system decided upon by the Chief Election Commission may dash the hopes of the TRS. If an MLA tries to vote against the party whip in the open ballot system, he will lose his position.
It is learnt that the party will discuss the issue in a meeting attended by Chief Minister KCR. (NSS)
