The government has agreed to two demands, including Vehicle Tax reduction and a single state permission. A Cabinet sub-committee will examine the other demands.
With the Telangana government agreeing to look into their demands, the lorry owners' association on Thursday called off its two-day strike.
On behalf of the state government, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy held talks with Lorry Owners' Association president Bhaskar Reddy and Secretary Durga Prasad at the Secretariat that proved positive.
Later, along with the Association leaders, Mahender Reddy and MLA Srinivas Goud told the media that the two-day strike was being called off.
As the strike was causing hardship to the people, the government acted quickly to hold talks which gave positive results, Mahender Reddy said.
The government has agreed to concede two of the 11 demands, including reduction of Vehicle Tax and a single state permission.
A Cabinet sub-committee will look into the other demands and submit a report in three weeks for the government to take a final call.
The sub-committee is likely to visit Gujarat to study transportation issues and models. (NSS)
