Union Minister G Kishan Reddy today said that arrangements were being made to organize the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations on September 17, 2022, in a grand manner.
Reddy recalled that then Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had made the erstwhile Nizam surrender to the Indian Army and unfurled the national tricolour in Hyderabad on September 17, 1948. And to commemorate that seminal event, on September 17, 2022, the current Union Home Minister Amit Shah would unfurl the national flag in Hyderabad, he said.
The celebrations would continue to be held on a massive scale for the whole year starting from that day, he added.
He also said that the Centre had identified many unrecognized heroes of the freedom struggle, and had decided to recognize their services to the nation.
Reddy lamented that many unsung heroes who had fought against the erstwhile Nizam regime were not recognized and honoured in independent India. The sacrifices of such freedom fighters would be memorialised by the current union government, and their birth and death anniversaries celebrated on a grand scale, he said.
In this connection, Reddy today visited Begum Bazaar in the city and met the family members of Vandematharam Ramachandra Rao, who had raised slogan of "Vandematharam" in the Osmania University and had been imprisoned during the freedom struggle.
