The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, in a conversation with the media, has said that as far as the formation of committee on Telangana is concerned, the Centre is almost at the end of the exercise. He said that the names of the committee members might be ready by the end of this week.
On the issue of the protests in the Telangana region, Chidambaram was contented that much of the agitation has simmered down, even though some protests are still going on here and there. He said his greatest regret is that a couple of students committed suicides. He added that by and large things are peaceful, and there is no major law and order violation in the state.
Yesterday, Telangana Congress leaders had met up at Telangana MP Jaipal Reddy’s residence in Delhi, and one of the key concerns of the meeting was reported to be the withdrawn Congress resignations and the pressure exerted by the JAC on the party.
Chidambaram’s statement is not as much of an announcement as it was a passing remark, which is seen by some as an attempt to buy more time.
