Telangana Issue Forces Botsa To Call Off PCC Meeting
Government whip Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy says that the House could not pass the resolution as there was no majority for passing the Telangana resolution.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday deferred a meeting of the State Congress which was scheduled to be held on September 23.
The meeting, which was to be held to pick apart the prevailing political situation of the Congress in the State having received a drubbing in the by-elections, has been postponed indefinitely following mounting pressure by Telangana leaders. According to sources, the leaders from the Telangana region appealed to the Congress High Command to convene a separate meeting for both the Telangana and the Seemandhra regions, and wrote a letter to the Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in this regard.
However, the PCC chief reportedly did not agree to this proposal. According to sources, the PCC chief stated that he would hold a separate regional meeting after the completion of the state level Congress meeting.
Earlier, MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and G Vivek, and former minister Komati Reddy Rajagopal, had had a meeting with the PCC chief over the issue at Gandhi Bhavan. The MPs reportedly informed Botsa Satyanarayana that the meeting might witness some disputes if convened with the leaders from both regions. (INN)
