The five-day monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly came to an abrupt end on Saturday with the House failing to take up any discussions on any of the public issues.
Noisy scenes, uproar and slogan shouting continued to rule the House on Saturday after Speaker Nadendla Manohar rejected the adjournment motions given by different parties. TDP's Parthasarathy gave notice seeking discussion on condition of farmers due to failure of monsoon, Etala Rajender (TRS) and Nagam Janardhan Reddy (Independent) on Telangana resolution, T Balaraju (YSRCP) on outbreak of diseases in tribal areas, Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM) on recruitment of constables, G Mallesh (CPI) on pollution due to open mining in Adilabad district, E Lakshminarayana (BJP) on SC, ST Sub-Plan and J Ranga Reddy (CPI-M) gave adjournment motion notice on VRS. After these notices were rejected, the TRS members gheraod the Speaker's podium while the TDP, MIM and BJP members stood near their seats shouting slogans.
Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkatramana Reddy appealed in vain to convince the agitating opposition members. While Legislative Affairs Minister D Sreedhar Babu was about to appeal to the members, the members of YSR Congress party entered the House by wearing black dresses and surrounded the Speaker's podium. Following continued uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House for one hour.
Similar scenes were witnessed when the House re-assembled at around 10.35 am. For the third consecutive day, the Speaker announced that all the questions listed for Question Hour should be deemed to have been answered. He also directed the ministers to send replies to the petitions to the members concerned. Meanwhile, TDP member P Kesava insisted that the House take up discussion on the problems being faced by farmers. However, amid din the Speaker adjourned the House again for one more hour.
The House took up condolences motions and members asked to submit their petitions after the House resumed its business at around 12.15 pm. However, the TDP and TRS remained adament on their demands for discussions on particular subjects and continued slogan shouting. Following uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House again for half-an-hour.
The condition did not improve when the House re-assembled again at around 1.25 pm. TDP MLA Kesava brought one rope to the House and said that farmers have been committing suicide due to the negligent attitude of the government. Therefore, he said that the government itself should be hanged. This intensified slogan shouting and pandemonium in the House forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House sine die. (INN)
