Tollywood actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested this morning in connection with the stampede at Sandhya theatre, got a huge relief from the Telangana High Court.
The court granted him interim bail, and adjourned the hearing of the quash petition filed by the actor to Monday.
After his arrest, Arjun was first produced before a Nampally court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. His lawyers then filed a petition in the High Court seeking bail and the quashing of the case.
During the course of the arguments in the HC, Arjun's lawyer Niranjan Reddy sought an urgent hearing on the petition by the court. The government's counsel however argued that the case should be heard on Monday and that there was no need for an urgent hearing.
The actor's lawyer then sought bail for the actor bail immediately if the hearing on the petition was postponed. Reddy argued that section 118(1) of the BNS did not apply to the actor. He also argued that Arjun was not involved in the incident intentionally, and had nothing to do with the incident.
The judge asked the government counsel what his objection was if the actor were granted bail, drawing no response from the counsel. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the judge granted interim bail to Arjun.
