Former Kodangal MLA and BRS leader Patnam Narender Reddy today got relief from the Telangana High Court, which granted him anticipatory bail in a case registered at the Bomraspet police station.
Reddy, who was arrested in connection with the Lagacherla violence case, is already out on bail. However, the Bomraspet police had registered another case in the incident in which he was named as an accused only recently (after the previous anticipatory bail was granted). Reddy approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in this case, and after hearing the matter, the bench granted him bail. It directed him to submit a personal bond of Rs 25,000, appear at the police station every Monday, and cooperate with the investigation.
For context, riots had erupted in Lagacherla village of the Kodangal Assembly constituency on November 11. 24 farmers were arrested for allegedly assaulting district Collector Prateek Jain and other officials during a public inquiry regarding land acquisition for a pharma company. Reddy and one Suresh were also arrested for allegedly conspiring to incite the riots.
The farmers and the MLA were sent to the Cherlapally and Sangareddy jails. Reddy later approached the Telangana High Court, which granted bail to him and the 24 farmers. He was released on December 19.
