High Court Bars Asking Aadhaar Details In Land Survey
The Telangana High Court today asked the government not to force the people to share their Aadhaar numbers during its non-agricultural properties survey.
The Telangana High Court today asked the state government not to force the people to share their Aadhaar numbers during its non-agricultural properties survey.
It also asked the government to not share the details of the individuals with any third parties.
A division bench of the HC made these remarks while dealing with a batch of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed on the issue.
During the course of the arguments, the petitioners told the High Court that there was a threat of breach of privacy due to the exercise.
Responding to this, the High Court asked the state government how it would guarantee security of the personal data of the individuals being collected.
In response, the Advocate General told the court that the government was taking all possible steps to protect the data.
The HC then made it clear that the newly enacted revenue Act was meant for agricultural land, and that there was no mention of data security in it.
