Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan's husband, famed nephrologist and a frontline Covid-19 warrior himself, Dr P Soundararajan, was today immunised against the disease.
He took the vaccine in the first phase of the state-wide immunisation drive, meant for the doctors, and health and sanitation workers of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated her husband on taking the vaccine, and expressed her hope that his taking the vaccine, as a frontline warrior and as a senior medical professional himself, would help encourage the other health workers in the state, who had reportedly been exhibiting a high level of "vaccine hesitancy", to take the vaccine without any worry.
Reiterating her assurance regarding the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, she said that the Indian-made vaccines were safe as they complied fully with the required international quality standards.
The Governor then appealed to the doctors, nurses and paramedics to come forward and take the vaccine to protect not only themselves but also their patients from the disease.
Soundararajan has been actively involved in encouraging the people of the state to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as many have been quite hesitant to do so. She had
addressed the public's worries regarding the safety of the vaccine last month as well.
