Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today reiterated her assurance to the health workers and the people of the state that the Covid-19 vaccine being administered in the state's ongoing vaccination drive was completely safe.
Speaking after launching an immunisation centre at the ESIC Hospital in Sanathnagar, she said that the people did not need to fear getting the injection as it was tested to be completely safe.
"The people of the state should not worry about the effectiveness or the safety of the vaccine. It is completely safe and usable. There are no side effects either. I can assure you that the state has been following every guideline issued by the Centre and the ICMR for the vaccination drive, and I would myself get the vaccine to prove so. However, in response to Prime Minister Modi's appeal to the states of the country to allow the frontline health and sanitation workers to be the first beneficiaries of the drive, I have not yet gotten the injection. As soon as the frontline workers have been immunised, I too will get immunised. Please do not hesitate to get yourselves inoculated," the Governor said.
She then emphasised the need for all the people to get immunised as this would help the state deal with the ongoing pandemic.
Soundararajan took the opportunity to also express her appreciation for the nation's scientists for rolling out "an effective and usable vaccine".
After hearing reports of "vaccine hesitancy" in the people of the state, the Governor had
addressed the matter some days back as well. In her bid to dispel the people's fear of the vaccine, she had said that the Covid-19 vaccine was safe, and that people all over the world were taking it.
