Minister for BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar today introduced a resolution in the Assembly for taking up a comprehensive door-to-door household survey of the castes (kula ganana) of all the citizens of Telangana.
The minister said that the resolution was introduced as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on February 4, 2024, so as to plan and offer various social, economic, educational, employment and political opportunities for the amelioration of the backward class, SC, ST and other weaker section citizens of the State.
During the discussion, Prabhakar said that the introduction of the resolution made this an unforgettable day in his life, and that it would be the best thing to happen for the weaker sections of the State.
He also said that even though a caste census was under the jurisdiction of the union government, the State government has decided to conduct one anyway in view of the conditions prevailing in the State.
Prabhakar expressed hope that social justice would be done to the SCs, STs, BCs and other weaker sections in the State through the survey, and thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for giving him an opportunity to introduce the resolution in the House.
