Telangana Government Bans Chinese Dor / Maanja

The procuring, stocking, sale and use of nylon thread, commonly called Chinese Dor, has been banned for its danger to the environment, wildlife and people.
Hyderabad | 13th January 2016
The Government of Telangana has issued orders banning the procuring, stocking, sale and use of nylon thread, commonly called "Chinese Dor", and other synthetic (non-bio-degradable) threads coated with glass or other substances used for flying kites and certain other purpose.

The orders were issued in the interest of conservation of wildlife and the safety of humans. It has been observed that the use of such material was causing grievous injury to animals and human beings, problems to transmission lines and other communication devices, and and hindrance to traffic movement. Adverse effects on soil and waterways due to its non-bio-degradable nature have also been noticed.

The Secretary, Forest and Environment, said that the use of Chinese Dor / Maanja is quite prevalent during festivals and requested the people not to use it and follow the government orders strictly.
