Telangana Govt. Allays Salt Price Hike Rumours
The government allayed rumours of hike in the price of salt and assured stringent action against hoarders and vendors who took advantage of the rumours.
Asserting that there was no shortage of salt reserves in Telangana, Finance Minister Etela Rajender today boldly urged the people not to hesitate to break open the stocks if shop owners hiked salt prices. This comes after rumours that salt prices broke the ceiling after the demonetization of 500 and 1,000 currency bills.
Since several vendors took advantage of the rumour and sold a kilo of salt for as high as Rs. 300, the Minister suggested the people that they break open the stocks and inform the Police to initiate serious action against guilty vendors.
The rumour was only a mischief by a few miscreants who find it amusing to trouble people who were already in a grip of confusion created by the demonetization process, Rajender said.
The State government would initiate stringent action against such people, vendors and illegal hoarders of essential commodities including salt, rice, pulses and others, he warned.
The Union Minister himself had cleared the air on the rumours and had stated there was no shortage of salt in the nation and that there was no need for people to panic, the TRS leader said.
